Dairy Goats

The herd is rotationally grazed, fed locally sourced whole grains and given an herbal de-wormer to reduce chemical use. The goats are Certified Animal Welfare Approved along with their milk, cheese, soaps, and lotions. The herd is tested annually for biosecurity diseases like CL, Johnes, and CAE, with the milkers tested for Brucellosis and Q-Fever.

Toggenburg Goats

Toggenburgs are a Swiss breed of dairy goats, recognized by their brown bodies and white markings (known as Swiss markings). They are a medium-sized breed, with does weighing around 120lbs and bucks weighing around 150lbs. Toggenburgs make excellent milkers for the homestead and in the show rings. They average about 2,250lbs per year, according to the American Dairy Goat Association, with 3.1% fat and 2.9% protein, though can range from 1100-3800lbs/year production. Their milk is similar tasting to cows, though naturally lactose-free and easily digestible. They have fun personalities and are naturally curious, making them great pets for the homestead.

I brought home my first registered Toggenburg in 2021 from Wild Hoof Acres and have been hooked ever since. They are well-mannered and easy-going, and I enjoy their flashy looks in the pasture. Their milk is great for drinking, cooking, baking, and making cheese or soap. They're easy to manage well on pasture and fit in nicely with the flock of sheep.
